SSO Benefits

What your organisation needs to know

Make life easier with Single Sign On (SSO)

Chances are you’ve accessed a website or an app via single sign-on (SSO) in the last few days. Using single sign-on (SSO) can be a game changer for organisations here’s why …

Most of us will be familiar with Office 365 – and you might have already used a SSO to login into your email, Word, and your Intranet using Office 365. In reality each of these “programs or services” without SSO would require a seperate login and password – meaning that you would have to login multiple times through out the day, and remember lots of different passwords and usernames. With the magic of single sign on, you don’t have to.

What is SSO?

Single Sign On (SSO) is when a user (You!) logs in to one application and is then signed in to other applications automatically, regardless of the platform, technology, or site the user is using. The user signs in only one time hence the name – Single Sign On.

What are the benefits of SSO your organisation?

It saves time

No one likes memorizing different logins and passwords for multiple applications – SSO minimizes the time users spend dealing with password-related frustrations, since users only need to remember and enter a single set of credentials.

This is a huge benefit when you consider that most users have to remember an average of 40 passwords..
Trying to remember which password goes to which, plus changing and resetting passwords when one is forgotten. The wasted time adds up.

And, if your IT team has to support multiple apps, for lots of users, setting up, switching and resetting passwords for users can require countless hours of IT time, which could be spent elsewhere.

It helps improve security

SSO significantly decreases the likelihood of a password-related hack. Since those setting the password only need to remember one password for all their applications, they are more likely to create solid, complex and hard-to-guess passphrases. They are also less likely to reuse passwords or write them down, which reduces the risk.

And this can be made even easier with a good Password Manager Program where complex passwords are generated and stored.

It helps decrease help desk related costs

A recent study by Gartner reveals over 50 percent of all help desk calls are due to password issues. Another study by Forrester reveals password resets cost organizations upward of $70 per fix. The more passwords a user has, the greater the chance of forgetting them, so SSO drives down help desk costs by reducing the number of required passwords to just one and as a result the number of help desk tickets to reset or change them.

With each passing day, it seems we have to create more and more passwords for more systems and applications to use in our everyday and work lives. Remembering these passwords for each of these apps is a challenge and for some organisations can become a risk.

However, by implementing single sign-on, you can take away the hassle, and free up your team to get back to doing what’s important.
